My high school teaching experience was very different from my middle school teaching experience. I was at Jones County High School in Jones County for my high school placement this semester. Going into this placement I was not very sure about how I felt about teaching high school, but by the end of it I absolutely loved teaching at the high school level. While I did struggle with some of the content since it had been so long since I had done some of it, I had a really great math team at the school who really helped me reach my full potential, while teaching something I had not done in many, many years. However, it was not just the great team of math teachers that made the placement great, it was the students that really made my experience better than I could have ever expected. Both of the Geometry classes that I taught at Jones County High were gifted classes, but they were not like all the other gifted classes that I had experienced. They did not just want the information and then for me to leave them alone so that they could get the work done faster. They wanted to know everything about everything. They wanted me to go into detail about the why and the how of every single problem that we went over. It was absolutely amazing! My favorite part thing about math is figuring out the why and the how behind it, so getting to actually teach that to students in the classroom was an absolute dream come true. One of my favorite things about my placement at Jones County High was getting to go to the Friday night football games to support my students that are part of the football team as well as my students who are part of the band. Getting to see their faces light up when they saw that I had gone to support them was absolutely one of my favorite things to happen all semester!
